Stila Convertible Color

Okay. Here we go. Part  One of MANY. To begin with, Stila’s Convertible color. At $25, it was a close call as to whether I could justify spending that much money… But somehow I did it.

(please read in insanely melodramatic voice)
Sephora is a makeup fanatic’s HEAVEN. Rows… and rows… and rows… of JUST MAKEUP. Living in London most oof the time, I had never set foot in Sephora until last week. I think it was the one in Union Square in New York, and the staff there were lovely and helpful- except for one, who- probably because of my so far diminuitive stature- though I was crazy to know what the newest Urban Decay palette was, let alone WANT it… But I came away blissfully happy anyway, and one of the highlights of my haul was Stila’s Convertible Color in Petunia. Available in nine shades, Stila says that ‘This versatile favorite brightens cheeks and lips with creamy, translucent color. Tap onto cheeks and press onto lips. The sheer tint adds an inherent glow to the cheeks while lips bloom with fresh, radiant color.’ So is it true?

Definitely. Convertible Color is a multitasker- it works just as well on lips as on cheeks- but the results in the two areas are incredibly different. I purchased Petunia, a very pretty coolish pink, and as far as I can see, it seems to be much sheerer on my lips, giving a lovely flush of color. On your cheeks, it’s very easy to build up, so I suggest using quite a small amount to begin with. Many have said that they only like to use it for cheeks, because it feels unhygienic to use it for both, but I am an utter slob so I don’t care. People who do, the only way I can justify the price tag is to have it be a 2-in-1, so I suggest using a cheek brush and lip brush. I use my fingers for my cheeks, it just means that I can control the amount I use better, but I DEFINITELY think that you need a lip brush to apply this, as it feels like you are wasting a lot of product when you use your fingers on your lips.

I used to really hate this packaging, as it looked childish and cheap, but having it in my hand does make a difference. You do get a fair amount of product, and it looks like it will last for quite some time if you use a brush. The packaging itself is plastic, the color of the product inside. It has little raised flowers on it, and it is surprisingly pretty in person. There’s also a good quality mirror on it as well, which I really like. It’s very light, and seems like it would be good to bring with you in a purse, or something. It’s also quite a good motivator- you aren’t going to let ANYONE steal a purse with this inside; it’s too valuable…You will protect it WITH YOUR LIFE.

The color is a bright and cheery pink, and I was very pleasantly surprised to find that putting it on did not make me break out (can i say VERY VERY VERY pleasantly surprised??) although I don’t have MASSIVELY sensitive skin. I would suggest trying it before buying it, as cream blushes can be iffy sometimes for the very sensitive out there. When it’s on your lips, I do suggest putting a clear gloss on top; firstly because it isn’t very shiny on its own, and also because after a while it can make your lips chapped.

So I recommend saving your pennies and buying this- it seems like a good investment, and is perfect for summer.

I THINK I may have worked out the photo problem!! Do tell me if i haven’t… and in the photos, I’m wearing Petunia on my lips and very lightly on my cheeks..

This looks like a very pretty colour on you! And your lips are super cute. I’ve been thinking of trying this one too. I don’t know if I should tell you this, but they have a limited selection of Stila convertibles over at allcosmeticswholesale for under 10 if you’re looking for more colours :)

Of course I’m prejudiced in your lips’ favor as I had a hand in creating them, but I do think this product looks great on you!
