Lancome L’Absolu Rouge

Today I’m reviewing LancomeL’Absolu Rouge lipstick- the shade I have is Rose Aurore (353). It’s a very bright, almost mauvey pink color, with just a hint of shimmer. It’s VERY pigmented, but it’s semi-sheer. Ish. That doesn’t really make any sense, does it? You’ll see in the swatches, but what I mean is that the color itself is vibrant and bright, but once on your lips its quite sheer, although the vibrancy of the color isn’t really lost.
It actually has really quite a lot of shine in it; even more so than a few glosses that I’ve tried. It feels very soft and moisturizing, but if you wipe it off that doesn’t really last. Anyway, while on your lips it feels very nice indeed :) .
Unfortunately, if you touch your lips AT ALL, it comes off and you’re left with a huge smudge. My solution to this is to put quite a lot on so that it doesn’t matter terribly if some comes off- quite a lot is left afterwards anyway. I’ll be buying the Too Faced lip primer at some point in the future, so when I buy that I’ll try to remember to add in what I think of this lipstick with a primer underneath…
The lipstick smells REALLY good, kind of like a rose but sort of with an almost powdered sugar smell thrown in. It lingers for a surprisingly long time afterwards as well.
The packaging is simplistic and sophisticated- simple glossy black with a rose on the top- but one of my favorite things about this is how awesome the cap is!!! There’s a magnet inside the lid, and on the base, and when you put the top on, it clicks into place!!!! How AWESOME IS THAT!?!? lol i know that’s kind of strange but still… it’s soso cool!!!! I’m not really sure what purpose it serves, but it seems important somehow.
As I said before, be warned- do not touch this lipstick with ANYTHING at all or suffer the consequences. If you don’t the staying power of this is actually pretty good! It’s kind of tricky not to though, but maybe if you put a little bit of gloss over it, you won’t have this problem.
The variety of shades is really good- 34 – and the price is definitely on the VERY expensive side, at $29. It’s cheaper in the UK though, at £18, but it’s still reeeeally expensive…
I probably won’t repurchase because of the staying power and the price, but I do actually quite like this lipstick. It’s good for anyone who likes scented lipsticks, and bright colors with a silky feel but if you dislike lipsticks that have a smell and need it to stay on for a long time, this probably isn’t for you.

ps of course, a post wouldn’t really be a post if there were no apology about the photos. Today there’s two- the usual, and the fact that the lipstick swatch seems much less of a cool pink. Sorry!!!
